Astana Pavilion Expo 2017

Museum // Exhibition

For the former Astana Pavilion, we created soundscapes and musical compositions for four exhibition floors dedicated to future energy. Distinct sonic atmospheres define the kinetic, solar, wind, and biomass sections of the pavilion, with selected interactive elements integrated into the sound scenography.

The Astana Pavilion was developed for Expo 2017 around the theme of future energy. Inside the spherical Nur Alem building, visitors move through more than 10,000 square meters of exhibition space dedicated to different forms of sustainable energy.

The exhibition is organized into thematic environments focused on kinetic, solar, wind, and biomass energy. Each floor establishes its own spatial atmosphere while remaining connected as part of a continuous exhibition environment across the pavilion.

We developed the sound concept, sound design, and musical composition for the exhibition. Organic soundscapes define the character of the individual sections and shape the transitions between the different thematic worlds. Selected parts of the sound scenography include interactive elements integrated into the exhibition environment.

Following Expo 2017, the pavilion continued to operate as a museum for sustainable energies, with the exhibition remaining in permanent use.

PROJECT SCOPE
  • Role of Sound
Sound shapes the atmosphere of the different exhibition floors and supports the perception of the individual energy environments.
  • Mode of Encounter
Visitors experience the work while moving through the pavilion’s multi-level exhibition spaces.
  • Sound Logic
Distinct soundscapes and musical compositions structure the transitions between the thematic exhibition sections, with selected interactive sound elements integrated into the environment.
  • Source Material
The composition is based on the exhibition themes of kinetic, solar, wind, and biomass energy.
  • Production Role
Sound concept, sound design, composition, interactive sound elements, mix on-site.
  • Sound System
Sound was distributed throughout the exhibition environments across four floors of the pavilion.
