MIRROR is a VR installation where visitor movement generates sound and visuals in real time. Binaural 3D audio follows the body through a digitally constructed spatial environment.

MIRROR is a VR installation that transforms visitor movement into sound and visuals. Inside the virtual environment, participants enter a digital shadow world where physical motion directly shapes the audiovisual experience.

The installation analyzes head and limb positions through a Max/MSP patch. This movement data is used to generate binaural 3D soundscapes that follow the body inside the virtual space. Visual and sonic reactions emerge continuously from the visitor’s movement behavior.

The project explores the relation between physical and virtual space through spatial perception. Sound functions as a dynamic orientation layer that changes with movement and position, creating a direct connection between body and environment.

We developed the concept, production, composition, sound design and programming for the work in collaboration with schnellebuntebilder, who created the visual concept, production, visuals and programming.

PROJECT SCOPE
  • Role of Sound
Binaural 3D sound extends the visitor’s movement into an audible spatial layer inside the virtual environment.
  • Mode of Encounter
Visitors move through a VR installation where their head and limb positions continuously influence sound and visuals.
  • Sound Logic
Sound behavior follows tracked body movement and changes dynamically in relation to position and motion.
  • Source Material
The audiovisual system is based on live movement analysis of head and limb positions.
  • Production Role
We developed the concept, composition, sound design, production and programming.
  • Sound System
Binaural 3D audio is generated and distributed within the VR environment.
