Created for Marilyn Monroe’s 100th anniversary, Becoming Marilyn Monroe is an immersive exhibition dedicated to the life and legacy of one of the twentieth century’s most influential cultural figures. Presented at Lichthalle MAAG in Zurich, the exhibition follows the transformation from Norma Jeane to Marilyn Monroe while reflecting on fame, freedom, self-determination and the construction of public identity.
The exhibition combines immersive projection environments, documentary material, interactive elements and cinematic staging inspired by a 1950s film studio. Much of the narrative is shaped through Monroe’s own words, including archival material and personal reflections that guide visitors through changing emotional and historical perspectives.
Music acts as a central structural layer throughout the experience. Reinterpretations of existing songs meet original compositions, while a recurring Monroe theme accompanies visitors across the exhibition. The spatial sound environment connects intimate scenes with large-format immersive sequences and supports the transitions between archival storytelling, cinematic imagery and interactive environments.
We developed the sound concept, composition, remix work and sound design for the exhibition. Our contribution focused on shaping a contemporary sonic interpretation of Marilyn Monroe that could move fluidly between historical reference, cinematic language and immersive exhibition space.
