Light Cloud

Art // Stage

Light Cloud is an interactive sound and light installation shaped around cognitive and emotional states such as dreaming, remembering, and thinking. More than 80 evolving soundscapes transform the space into a continuously changing audiovisual environment.

Light Cloud is an interactive sound and light installation inspired by the cognitive and emotional states of an artificial being. The work stages processes such as sleeping, dreaming, remembering, feeling, and thinking through continuously shifting audiovisual compositions.

Each composition reflects a different state of consciousness and changes the relationship between visitors and the environment. Depending on the current mode, visitors become observers, participants, or active triggers within the installation. Throughout the day, the system reorganizes its compositions, allowing the space to behave differently over repeated visits.

More than 80 unique soundscapes form a continuously evolving sonic environment ranging from musical structures to experimental sound compositions. Visitor movement influences the audiovisual responses, creating changing relationships between sound, light, and spatial behavior. Behind mirrored surfaces, movement data continuously generates new correlations between audience activity and audiovisual reactions.

We created the sound concept and interactive sound environment for the installation, including music composition, sound design, interaction design, audio supervision, programming, mixing, mastering, and on-site implementation. The spatial audio system combined ceiling speakers, wall-mounted exciters, and a subwoofer beneath the floor to envelop visitors within a seamless multichannel sound field.

PROJECT SCOPE
  • Role of Sound
Sound defines the installation’s changing emotional and cognitive states, shaping how the artificial presence appears, reacts, and evolves over time.
  • Mode of Encounter
Visitors move between observing and participating as sound and light respond differently across passive, reactive, and interactive scenarios.
  • Sound Logic
The installation continuously rearranges compositions throughout the day, creating shifting audiovisual constellations and self-evolving sonic situations.
  • Source Material
The compositions are based on conceptual states including sleeping, dreaming, perception, self-awareness, awakeness, and intentionality.
  • Production Role
We developed the sound concept, interaction design, sound design, music composition, audio supervision, programming, mixing, mastering, and on-site implementation.
  • Sound System
The installation used seven ceiling speakers, four exciters hidden behind mirrored walls, and one subwoofer beneath the floor to create a spatial field of sound.
